Additional Counseling

While most of our clients come to us to treat a substance use disorder, our counseling services expand beyond that. Many people seeking therapy do so to maintain good mental health. We want to acknowledge that there doesn’t always have to be something wrong for someone to come to counseling. These are some other counseling services we offer.

There is not much question that when a family is healthy and happy, all seems right with the world. But not all families are stable, healthy, and happy all the time. Problems and conflicts in a family can affect all areas of family members’ lives and even the best families can feel a need for help beyond their own resources sometimes.

When it feels like the issues are getting too big for your family to handle, and aren’t improving, it may be time to see a family therapist. The Willow Center family therapists can help families find new ways to manage struggles, conflicts, and challenges. They can help couples, children, or members of an extended family learn to communicate better and work through conflicts.

There are many reasons that couples, married or not, may want to seek couples counseling. Admitting things are not perfect in a relationship can be scary, but we are here to help couples realize divisive actions they may be making. Resentments have been shown to be one of the biggest barriers to intimacy, so we will work with you to identify any and show you healthy communication skills that can then translate into good habits.

It is important to remember that seeking therapy as a couple is nothing to be ashamed about, but rather something to be proud of. It takes a strong couple to admit when something isn’t right and to commit to work on a solution together. The Willow Center’s couples’ therapists are here to facilitate that new commitment to each other in a relationship.

Individual therapy at The Willow Center is devoted to the individual’s concerns and goals. Whether a mental health concern, grief, or another life challenge, this is where we will walk alongside our clients and dig deeper into areas of their life that they may not feel comfortable discussing in a group setting. We will help transform feelings of shame and guilt into ownership and a motivator for change.

Individual counseling will also incorporate family, friends, and other supports into therapy. We believe that the best healing happens as a family unit and we want to provide a safe, caring, and confidential place to facilitate that healing.

Trauma-Informed Care

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a treatment modality that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of traumatic life experiences. The Willow Center trauma therapists are trained in this technique and can help our clients process their pain associated with their trauma so that they may experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference.

It is widely assumed that severe emotional pain requires a long time to heal. EMDR therapy shows that the mind can, in fact, heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma. The brain’s information processing system naturally moves toward mental health. Using the detailed protocols and procedures of EMDR therapy, The Willow Center therapists can help our clients activate their natural healing processes.
